POPULATION DENSITY

Residents live in an area covering more than 23.92 square km. to give the town a population density of 226.3 people per square kilometer. The low population density offers a great deal of space for both business and residential expansion.

SPECIALIZED TRAINING

Bay Roberts has a training facility for commercial drivers and heavy equipment operators, the Canadian Training Institute. In addition, it is about 15 minutes from two post secondary training institutions which serve the needs of the Baccalieu Trail region: the College of the North Atlantic Carbonear Campus which is publicly owned and operated, and Keyin College which is privately owned and operated. The College of the North Atlantic, as a public educational institution has a mandate to develop courses to meet the need of business and industry in the region. In the past it has designed courses for fish harvesters and for commercial sewing for local industries.

The town is only about one hour from Memorial University, which is the largest university in Atlantic Canada. The P. J. Gardiner Institute for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship (PJG) was the first centre of small business support to be established within a Canadian university.
