The Wetlands Nature Camp
July 26 - Aug 6
A two week summer program developed by the Conservation Corps of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Joint Management Committee of the Shearstown Estuary, and Eastern Habitat Joint Venture.
From July 26th to August 6th 2010, children from Bay Roberts and surrounding communities are invited to come and join us for two weeks of summer fun! The camp runs from Monday to Friday, 10am - 2pm, with a drop off time at 9:30am. This is an excellent opportunity for children to get active and outdoors, while learning about the environment. Registration for camp is on a day to day basis, and children from all areas of the community may come and join our Green Team for many fun activities, and benefit from meeting special guests Dennis Minty and Ticker Tom

Bay Roberts Needs YOU.
We live in one of the most peaceful and beautiful places on earth. The municipality of Bay Roberts has been developing parks and mini parks, adding to places of interest such as the Klondyke Causeway and the Sheastown Estuary, and enhancing walking trails including the Bay Roberts East Heritage Walk .

You Can Help, Too “Adopt A Spot”
Does it matter if we adopt a site?
YOU BET IT DOES!!!!
When you or your group “Adopt A Spot”, you show people that you have spirit and pride; that you care about your Town. And hopefully that feeling will be passed on. Your community is not only more beautiful for its residents but to visitors and businesses, which makes it better for everyone!!
Think about adopting a spot as an individual or as a group, for further information and for suggestions, see:
Adopt a Spot Agreement [PDF] > >
As a community, we need to contribute by taking care of our personal properties, our businesses, and keeping our town clean. In addition, the United Nations and the media has made us aware of the problems caused by global warming. We can each do our part to help the environment by reducing, reusing, recycling, and recovering.
In our throw-away society, with so much over-consumption, waste, and garbage, we need to remember the Native American proverb which states:
"We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children."
Each year, Newfoundlanders and Labradorians generate more than 400,000 tonnes of waste materials. That's approximately two kilograms per person per day. The overall goal of the Newfoundland government is to reduce waste by 50% by 2010.
Multi-Material Stewardship Board (MMSB) has been established in the province as part of its waste management strategy. Its purposes are to:
-
dramatically reduce the number of landfill sites,
-
phase out teepee incinerators, open burning and unlined landfill sites,
-
increase waste diversion, and
-
educate the public about the importance of environmental protection through appropriate waste management.
The Provincial Waste Management Strategy is based on five primary actions: increase waste diversion; establish waste management regions; develop modern standards and technology; maximize economic and employment opportunities associated with waste management; and deliver public education.
