Spring 2018 Message from Mayor Philip Wood
Spring is officially here – at least according to the calendar! Let’s all hope that it will be a good one leading into what will be a great summer!
There will undoubtedly be a lot of activities ongoing both this spring and summer in Bay Roberts and the surrounding area. I encourage everyone to get out and about and enjoy what the season has to offer. There are a number of big events for the Town that are currently well into the planning stages.
First up is the ‘Songs, Stages & Seafood Festival’ happening May 23th –27th – for details and information – check out songsstagesandseafood.com.
Next on the list, is the ‘Light the Lamp’ Road Hockey Tournament which is set for June 23th–24th. This will be the first time that an event of this magnitude will be held in Bay Roberts. A lot of teams have already registered and I’m happy to say that many sponsors have volunteered their support for this event.
In July we’ll also be holding our Annual ‘Klondyke Days’ which is always a favorite for both residents and visitors alike. It begins on July 25th with the Klondyke Day’s parade and ends on the August 6th with our traditional Fireworks finale.
Of course, with the recent tremendous announcement by Government that we will be hosting the NL Summer Games in 2020, we’re going to see a lot of activity in the very near future. I would encourage everyone to get involved and take in as many of these events as possible in order to show your support. In the meanwhile, to see everything that’s on the go check regularly at bayroberts.com or on the Bay Roberts FaceBook page.’
At this time I would like to congratulate and thank all of our volunteers and staff for their planning and work on these and many other events that will be ongoing this spring and summer – all the best -your efforts are very much appreciated.
Lastly, to say the least, one thing about the weather in Newfoundland & Labrador, it will continue to be unpredictable despite the official start of spring. As a result, I ask everyone to stay prepared for any snow, ice and colder temperatures that may and will in all likelihood occur. Most importantly – drive safely! Our Works Department will be out there. They have already started to make necessary repairs to our roads with the asphalt recycler that was purchased last year. In ending, I would like to thank everyone in advance for their support and cooperation.
All the best – I hope it is an enjoyable and safe spring for all!
