Mayor Wood’s Spring Message

Spring is officially here – Let’s all hope that it will be a good one leading into what will be an equally great summer!

There will undoubtedly be a lot of activities ongoing both this spring and summer in Bay Roberts and the surrounding area. I encourage everyone to get out and about and enjoy what the season has to offer. There are a number of big events for the Town that are currently well into the planning stages. First up is the ‘Songs, Stages & Seafood Festival’ happening May 23th – 26th – for details and information – check out songsstagesandseafood.com.  The Seafood Festival continues to be a premier event in the province – so don’t be disappointed by waiting to purchase tickets. Next on the list, is the ‘Light the Lamp’ Road Hockey Tournament which is set for June 22th – 23th.  Following on the heels of last year’s highly successful inaugural Tournament, this year’s event looks to be even bigger and better. A lot of teams have already registered and I’m happy to say that many volunteers and sponsors have continued with their vital support for this event. In July we’ll also be holding our Annual ‘Klondyke Days’ which is always a favorite for both residents and visitors alike. It begins on July 24th with the Klondyke Day’s parade and ends on the August 5th with our traditional Fireworks finale. Of course, with the announcement by Government that we will be hosting the NL Summer Games in 2020, we’re going to see a lot of activity during the summer as we prepare. I would encourage everyone to get involved and take in as many of these events as possible in order to show your support. In the meanwhile, to see everything that’s on the go, check regularly at bayroberts.com or on our Facebook page.  At this time I would like to congratulate and thank all of our volunteers and staff for their planning and work on these and many other events that will be ongoing this spring and summer – all the best -your efforts are very much appreciated.

During this spring and summer the Town will see a lot of construction going on throughout it. In particular, we are going to see the start of the ground work and construction for the new primary school to replace Coley’s Point Primary off Eric Dawe Drive – so please use caution in the area. I’ll ask for your patience now and remind everyone that this work and construction is necessary as we upgrade our infrastructure and facilities as an essential part of our community’s growth.

In conclusion, on behalf of Council and Staff I would like to wish everyone a very safe and enjoyable spring and summer season! Take care!

Mayor Philip Wood
